Baseball Recap: Pioneer Sets Scoring Season-High Against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pioneer). They put the hurt on the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest Javelinas with a sharp 20-6 victory on Thursday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-0 on Tuesday.

Ruben Lopez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Francisco Juarez looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Diego Dominguez was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zerek Solis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Pioneer always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Pioneer's win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-10. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-16 record this season.
