Baseball Recap: Tanque Verde Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Tanque Verde had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Coolidge Bears with a sharp 17-3 win. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Ryan Ruskay made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Tanque Verde got a massive performance out of Dylan Lewis, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. Those four runs gave Lewis a new career-high. Landon Walker was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Tanque Verde pushed their record up to 14-4-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Coolidge, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tanque Verde will venture away from home to square off against Safford at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Coolidge, they will head out to challenge Valley Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bears will need to watch out since the Trojans have now posted at least ten runs in their last four contests.
