2A East Central recap Oct. 16, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Topsail, who took down 199th ranked Croatan, 32-14.
Swansboro's Deandre Thompkins rumbled for the longest rushing play in 2A East Central this season in his game against South Lenoir last week. Thompkins scampered for 80 yards on the play and finished with 236 on the day as his team bested the Blue Devils.
Swansboro's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Chris Phipps threw for 25 yards and Dakota Wakefield had 20 yards receiving. Phipps helped Swansboro's passing attack out by catching one ball for five yards.
Wayne Hall made the biggest impact on defense this week as South Lenoir fell to Tim Laspada's team. The 5-foot-9 senior recorded one fumble.
Swansboro's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Pirates feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Phipps has thrown for 284 yards and two touchdowns this season, while Markuise Hemby has four catches for 75 yards. Thompkins leads the league in rushing with 1151 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Northside takes on Clinton. At the moment, the Monarchs are in first, while the Dark Horses are in sixth.
The Pirates moved up to 175 from 225 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A East Central. Topsail was able to make the jump by besting the Cougars 32-14.
