Baseball Recap: Swink's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Two

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Swink ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They beat the Rye Thunderbolts by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-4 on Friday.

Noah Pearson made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Swink is undefeated when Pearson posts two or more stolen bases, but 7-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Nick Paolucci was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games he's played. Nate Cabrera was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

The victory made it two in a row for Swink and bumps their season record up to 12-9. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Rye, they dropped their record down to 5-17 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Swink will challenge Fowler at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grizzlies will roll in looking for their 15th straight win, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight. As for Rye, they will take on Las Animas at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Trojans have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
