The Cesar Chavez Champions had already won 15 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points), and they went ahead and made it 16 on Thursday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 84-47 win over Shadow Ridge. Cesar Chavez has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 23 points or more this season.
Cesar Chavez got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Royal Haley out in front who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Lex Clontz, who scored 18 points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Shadow Ridge still got an impressive performance from Gavin Bartlett, who scored eight points.
Cesar Chavez's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.6 points per game. As for Shadow Ridge, they now have a losing record at 10-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cesar Chavez will take on the Monsoon at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Valley Vista will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 154th, while the Champions are ranked 21st). As for Shadow Ridge, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Rams at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully Maricopa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Thursday.
