The Lone Peak Knights will head out to challenge the Jordan Beetdiggers at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Lone Peak is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Lone Peak is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Lehi, who was ranked eighth at the time (Lone Peak was ranked fourth). The Knights fell just short of the Pioneers by a score of 6-5 on Friday. The Knights haven't had much luck with the Pioneers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Lone Peak got a good showing from Porter Holmes, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Holmes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Bronx Chavira was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Jordan, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top against Skyridge by a score of 5-1 on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Beetdiggers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
KADE CARTER spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits. He has become a key player for Jordan: the team is 6-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-9 otherwise.
On the hitting side, DALLON MOLDER was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. BRAYLON PETTIT also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Jordan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Jordan's record now sits at 12-10. As for Lone Peak, their loss dropped their record down to 16-6.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lone Peak hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .370. However, it's not like Jordan struggles in that department as they've averaged .312. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lone Peak came up short against Jordan when the teams last played back in May of 2021, falling 7-3. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
