Green Valley is 7-2 against Centennial since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Gators will take on the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. Green Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Green Valley is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Basic, who was ranked 18th at the time (Green Valley was ranked 15th). The Gators blew past the Wolves 17-7 on Thursday. The Gators haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Lyla Baxter, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Lauryn Galvin, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Green Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Basic only posted an OBP of .423.
Meanwhile, Centennial had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against the Patriots. That's two games straight that the Bulldogs have won by just one run.
Centennial got a big performance out of Madden Turner, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Valeria Lopez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Green Valley's record now sits at 16-10. As for Centennial, their record is now 15-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Green Valley hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Green Valley skirted past Centennial 4-3 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gators since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
