Grosse Pointe South has won three straight games at home, while De La Salle Collegiate has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Blue Devils will host the Pilots at 4:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Wednesday, Grosse Pointe South needed a bit of extra time to put away Sterling Heights Stevenson. They had just enough and edged out the Titans 3-2. While the Blue Devils didn't have the best season last year (they finished 14-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Grosse Pointe South got a great performance from Jack Danielewicz as he pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, Grosse Pointe South saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Lupo, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Lupo has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Drew Hess also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, De La Salle Collegiate got themselves on the board against Central Catholic on Friday, but Central Catholic never followed suit. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Fighting Irish 2-0. The two-run effort marked the Pilots' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Central Catholic's batters probably weren't too happy with Dylan Luepke, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 11 Ks (he gave up four walks).
De La Salle Collegiate's victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Grosse Pointe South, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Grosse Pointe South's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Blue Devils have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for De La Salle Collegiate, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Grosse Pointe South continue to outrun the ball?
Grosse Pointe South beat De La Salle Collegiate 7-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pilots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
