The Stevens Falcons suffered their biggest loss since November 14, 2023 on Friday. Their rough 68-42 defeat to Harlan might stick with them for a while. Stevens has not had much luck with Harlan recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Stevens lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mya Guzman. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andra Stokes, who scored eight points.
Harlan found their leader in underclassman Ruhama Salyers, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Salyers has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Alexa Romero, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Stevens has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 12 of their last 14 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-18 record this season. As for Harlan, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-10.
Stevens will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Taft at 7:30 p.m. Taft is no doubt hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses. As for Harlan, they will head out on the road to challenge Sotomayor at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Jordan Pete and Loghan Hamilton.
