Football Recap: Pomeroy Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Pomeroy extended their winning streak to seven on Friday, bumping them up to 7-0. They claimed a resounding 80-46 win over the Waitsburg Cardinals. Considering the Pirates have won five games by more than 33 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kyzer Herres produced another solid performance rushing for 316 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 7.5 yards per carry. Thanks to that big game, he is now up to 16 rushing touchdowns on the season. Vinnie Vecchio was another major influence, as he rushed for 50 yards and ran in a TD.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pomeroy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 383 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Pomeroy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Wyatt Huwe and Conrad Nelson.

As for Waitsburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (42), they still had to take the loss.

Waitsburg's loss came despite strong showings from Jayton Gleason and Landen Henry. Gleason rushed for 141 yards and three TDs while picking up 8.8 yards per carry, while Henry picked up 297 receiving yards and four scores. Henry really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 70 yards.

Coming up, Pomeroy will be playing at home against Dayton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Waitsburg, they will head out to challenge St. John-Endicott at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals will be up against the Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 56.33 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
