White Oak is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Swansboro is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. White Oak will welcome Swansboro at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. White Oak is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, White Oak didn't have quite enough to beat Croatan and fell 3-2. The Vikings have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.
White Oak saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa Whitcomb, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Swansboro made sure to put some runs up on the board against West Craven on Monday. Swansboro was the clear victor by a 13-1 margin over West Craven. While the Pirates didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Adison Kirkpatrick was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Kirkpatrick was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Payton Jensen and Katherine Cahall did most of the damage at the plate: Jensen went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Cahall scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those stolen bases were Cahall's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ryleigh Cline, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Swansboro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Swansboro has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. White Oak's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
White Oak was able to grind out a solid win over Swansboro when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 3-0. Does White Oak have another victory up their sleeve, or will Swansboro turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
