Basketball Recap: Lincoln High Falls Despite Big Games from Brady Nick and Jairik Gilmore

Lincoln High lost against Lincoln Southwest back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Lincoln High Links took a 71-66 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lincoln Southwest Silver Hawks.

Jairik Gilmore and Brady Nick certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Gilmore dropped a double-double on 33 points and 12 boards, while Nick went 10 of 18 on his way to 26 points. The matchup was Nick's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Buay Jock, who posted four points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lincoln Southwest to victory, but perhaps none more so than Uzziah Sanders, who went 10 of 14 on his way to 25 points and three steals. Those 25 points gave Sanders a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Makkiah Sanders, who went 7 of 17 on his way to 14 points and four steals.

Lincoln High now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Lincoln Southwest, their victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lincoln High will welcome Kearney at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Kearney's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Lincoln Southwest, they and Lincoln Southeast will meet in a classic East v. West matchup at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Lincoln Southwest knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Lincoln Southeast likes a good challenge.
