Baseball Recap: Washington Beats Berkeley Springs for Their Third Straight Win

Washington waltzed into their game on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Berkeley Springs Indians as they made off with an 11-1 win. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.

Marshall Derrick and Connor Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Derrick went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Smith went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Derrick a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Edwards, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Washington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berkeley Springs only posted an OBP of .316.

Washington pushed their record up to 13-8 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Berkeley Springs, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-25.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washington will head out to face off against Musselman at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Berkeley Springs, they will venture away from home to take on Moorefield at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
