The Dunsmuir Tigers won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They were dealt a 93-37 defeat at the hands of Butte Valley. Dunsmuir has struggled against Butte Valley recently, as their match on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Dunsmuir lost, one person who can't be blamed is Michael Kellar. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points along with five steals and three blocks. That was a full 70.3% of Dunsmuir's points, marking the 15th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Dunsmuir struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Butte Valley racked up 27 assists.
Butte Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jordan Cynor out in front who scored 25 points along with seven steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cynor has scored all season. Ethan Burrow was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Dunsmuir dropped their record down to 2-18 with that defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Butte Valley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a massive bump to their 15-8 record this season.
Dunsmuir won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Bethel Christian at 5:30 p.m. on February 7th. Hopefully Dunsmuir focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Tuesday. As for Butte Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hayfork at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hayfork knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Butte Valley likes a good challenge.
