Softball Recap: West Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

West came into Tuesday's game having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They never let the Whitney Wildcats get on the board and left with an 11-0 win on Tuesday. That's more bragging rights for the Trojans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Laynie Davis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Davis was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyla Shoppach, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kailey Cardona, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.

West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

West's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 10-14-1. As for Whitney, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-10-1.

West will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wildcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
