The Lamar Texans lost against the Heights Bulldogs back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Lamar was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 45-44 to Heights. That's two games in a row now that Lamar has lost by exactly a single point.
Lamar's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Phoenix Sneed, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds, and Khouri White who scored 15 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that White scored 15 or more points.
Even though they lost, Lamar smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heights only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Heights' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jazmyne Gilbert, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. Gilbert hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Mira Johnson, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Lamar and nudges their season record down to 7-11. As for Heights, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-10.
Lamar will be playing at home against Westside at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Westside is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road. As for Heights, they will square off against Bellaire at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Bellaire focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Friday.
