Basketball Recap: Alief Hastings Piles Up the Points Against Southwest

Alief Hastings's tournament run continued when they took on Southwest on Saturday. The Alief Hastings Bears blew past the Southwest Raiders, posting a 71-12 victory. The Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.

Amyah Weathersby was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 36 points and 11 boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Alief Hastings' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maricha Tisdell, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards.

Alief Hastings was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Alief Hastings has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for Southwest, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-8.

Alief Hastings will be playing at home against Alief Taylor at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Alief Hastings has won three straight at home, while Alief Taylor won five straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Southwest, they will venture away from home to challenge Diamond Hill-Jarvis at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. Southwest is facing Diamond Hill-Jarvis at the right time seeing as Diamond Hill-Jarvis is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
