Deer Creek-Mackinaw and Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. Mackenzie Knowles made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Rudy Gilbert was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those stolen bases marked the first that she snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Addyson Carithers, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley came up short against Armstrong on Tuesday and fell 9-6.
Bella Young made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Lydia Runyon was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Deer Creek-Mackinaw, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Deer Creek-Mackinaw has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Deer Creek-Mackinaw's sizable advantage in that area, the Falcons will need to find a way to close that gap.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw beat Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 7-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chiefs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
