The Bishop Verot Vikings pushed their score all the way to 59 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of North Tampa Christian Academy by a score of 62-59. While losing is never fun, Bishop Verot can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while North Tampa Christian Academy is ranked 30th).
Despite the loss, Bishop Verot still got an impressive performance from Jerry Ashley, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ashley has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Leroy Roker, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and eight assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North Tampa Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Toni Bryant, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Bryant is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Landyn Colyer was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Bishop Verot and nudges their season record down to 15-5. As for North Tampa Christian Academy, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bishop Verot will take on LaBelle at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Alan King jr and Gavin Williams. As for North Tampa Christian Academy, North Tampa Christian Academy and Sunlake will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Sunlake is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
