Wren (Piedmont, S.C.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 16 points, drop to eight before the final whistle blew on a 37-29 victory over
Belton-Honea Path (Honea Path, S.C.).
The Bears pulled ahead on a
Tc McCullough touchdown pass to
Keinan Lewis, and subsequently went into halftime leading 21-17. The Hurricanes took the lead for good with a passing touchdown in the third quarter.
Lewis played well for Belton-Honea Path. The senior wide receiver caught three touchdowns. He has now scored 10 touchdowns on the season.
BHP came in surrendering 13.1 points per game this season. The Honea Path school struggled against Wren, which came in averaging 33.9 points per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Belton-Honea Path, which notched a 64-28 victory over Seneca in its previous outing. With the win WHS extended its winning streak to three games.
Wren (7-2) goes up against Palmetto in a AAA Region I game matchup next week, while Belton-Honea Path (6-3) locks horns with Emerald also in a AAA Region I game.
