Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Centennial walked away with it. They never let the Arlington Heights Yellowjackets get on the board and left with a 21-0 victory on Saturday. Considering the Spartans have won 20 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Ava Ellis was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Ellis was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
In other pitching news, Kendall Cottongame looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Centennial got a massive performance out of Ryanne Stephens, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Madison Haynes, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Centennial hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in 11 consecutive contests.
Centennial is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games.
