The Greencastle Tiger Cubs are taking a road trip to face off against the Monrovia Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Greencastle has four straight wins, Monrovia has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Greencastle barely beat North Putnam the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tiger Cubs put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 12-2 victory on Friday. Considering the Tiger Cubs have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Bryton Gregg was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trevin Long, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Treyten Clark, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Greencastle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Indianapolis Lutheran hit Monrovia with a six-run fourth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bulldogs came up short against the Saints, falling 13-3.
Monrovia saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gauge Tolan, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Greencastle pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Monrovia, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Greencastle has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Monrovia struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Greencastle's way against Monrovia in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Greencastle made off with a 12-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tiger Cubs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
