Even though Varsity Opponent scored an imposing 62 points on Wednesday, the Newman AA Cardinals still came out on top. Newman AA took their contest against Varsity Opponent 71-62. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Newman AA also won the last time the pair played last Friday.
Newman AA got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Quinn Costello out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. Costello is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tommy McKiernan, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Newman AA pushed their record up to 15-3 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.8 points per game. As for Varsity Opponent, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost 14 of their last 15 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 384-1402-2 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newman AA will challenge Varsity Opponent on Friday. As for Varsity Opponent, they will head out on the road to square off against Khan Lab at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
