After a string of three wins, the Hayden Tigers's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 53-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of De Beque. Hayden found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post ten fewer assists than your opponent.
When it comes to explaining why Hayden lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jenna Kleckler. Despite the final result, she scored 28 points along with six steals and five rebounds. That was a full 60.9% of Hayden's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Taryn Schlim, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds.
De Beque's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rachel Graham, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. Avery Rigsby was another key contributor, scoring 22 points along with five rebounds.
Hayden's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for De Beque, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hayden will challenge Caprock Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Hayden focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Saturday. As for De Beque, they will head out on the road to square off against Vail Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. De Beque is facing Vail Christian at the right time seeing as Vail Christian is stuck on a 11-game losing streak.
