Highland has gone 7-1 against Hammond Bishop Noll recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Trojans will square off against the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Highland is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Griffith an 11-0 shutout. The win was nothing new for the Trojans as they're now sitting on three straight.
The team relied heavily on Hailey Thomas, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Evie Rivera, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Highland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Griffith only posted a batting average of .217.
Meanwhile, Hammond Bishop Noll got the win against Calumet New Tech on Tuesday by a conclusive 15-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Hammond Bishop Noll.
Molly Whelan made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Whelan was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Aiyanna (Yani) Espinosa was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Caitlyn Walker, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Hammond Bishop Noll's victory bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Highland, their win bumped their record up to 18-11.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Highland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .405. However, it's not like Hammond Bishop Noll struggles in that department as they've averaged .332. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Highland's way against Hammond Bishop Noll in their previous meeting on May 3rd, as Highland made off with a 12-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
