Montrose Christian (Rockville, Md.) entered the ESPN Rise National High School Invitational as the No. 1 seed. The Mustangs lived up to that billing Saturday with a 71-64 double-overtime victory over
Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) in the tournament final.
The Maryland independent school – rated No. 5 nationally by MaxPreps – received a team-high 21 points from Villanova-bound guard
Tyrone Johnson as it defeated No. 11 Oak Hill Academy for the second time this season. Montrose beat
John Carroll (Bel Air, Md.) and
Boys & Girls (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to reach the final and finishes the season with a 25-1 record.
Oak Hill was led by Duke signee
Quinn Cook's 25 points, but the title eluded head coach Steve Smith's highly-successful program for the third year in a row. The Warriors close the year with a 29-4 mark.
The Montrose Christian-Oak Hill Academy contest was the final high school basketball game of the 2010-11 season. MaxPreps.com will release its final rankings Sunday night.
