The Coral Gables Cavaliers will venture away from home to face off against TERRA Environmental at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Coral Gables has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Coral Gables couldn't beat South Dade on Thursday even though they stacked five runs on them in the fifth inning. The Cavaliers came up short against the Buccaneers, falling 15-8. The loss continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their meetings with the Buccaneers: they've now lost four in a row.
Amelie Delvat made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those runs marked the first that she has scored this season.
Meanwhile, TERRA Environmental had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 22-2 margin over the Eagles. Considering TERRA Environmental has won three contests by more than ten runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Melissa Hernandez made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2025.
In other batting news, TERRA Environmental got a massive performance out of Makayla Sosa, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Nicole Camji, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
TERRA Environmental always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .824. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .595 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Coral Gables' defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for TERRA Environmental, their record now sits at 5-1.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Coral Gables has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. However, it's not like TERRA Environmental struggles in that department as they've averaged .623. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Coral Gables might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from TERRA Environmental in their previous matchup back in February. Can the Cavaliers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
