Marshall hasn't had much luck against South El Monte recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Marshall will head out on the road to face off against South El Monte at 3:30 p.m. Marshall has given up an average of 14.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Marshall came up short against Arroyo on Wednesday, falling 14-1.
Marshall saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Detwiler, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, while South El Monte put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Rosemead. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Panthers. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Emily Gaytan made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gaytan was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, South El Monte let Loreli Castrejon and Gia Castruita run wild. Castrejon got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI and one run, while Castruita got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and three RBI. That's the most RBI Castrejon has posted since back in May of 2025. Sofia Medina was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
South El Monte kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
South El Monte's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.3 runs over those games. As for Marshall, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Marshall hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .443. However, it's not like South El Monte struggles in that department as they've averaged .486. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Marshall suffered a grim 25-2 defeat to South El Monte when the teams last played on April 2nd. Can Marshall avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
