There's no place like home for the Hillside Hornets, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. Everything went their way against Cardinal Gibbons on Friday as Hillside made off with a 62-36 win. That's another feather in the cap for Hillside, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hillside to victory, but perhaps none more so than Samiyah Barker, who scored 15 points. The game was Barker's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Madison Malone, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Cardinal Gibbons had strong showings from Molly Chappell, who scored 7 points along with 6 rebounds, and Tessa Gladieux, who scored 14 points along with 5 rebounds. Gladieux scored a full 38.9% of Cardinal Gibbons' points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
The victory got Hillside back to even at 2-2. As for Cardinal Gibbons, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.
Hillside will head out on the road to face off against Rocky Mount at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (Rocky Mount is ranked 74th, while Hillside is ranked 66th). As for Cardinal Gibbons, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ravenscroft at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Ravenscroft focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday.
