Basketball Game Preview: Capistrano Valley Christian Eagles vs. Avalon Lancers

The Capistrano Valley Christian Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Avalon Lancers at 2:45 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Capistrano Valley Christian has ten straight wins, Avalon has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

On Wednesday, Capistrano Valley Christian strolled past Arrowhead Christian with points to spare, taking the game 70-51. Capistrano Valley Christian pushed the score to 57-33 by the end of the third, a deficit Arrowhead Christian cut but never quite recovered from.

It was another big night for Michael Ahern, who went 11 of 17 on his way to 31 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. His evening made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Ahern, who posted 18 points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Avalon played a tough match on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Tarbut V' Torah, falling 77-41. While losing is never fun, the Lancers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1226th, while the Lions are ranked 476th).

Capistrano Valley Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.9 points per game. As for Avalon, their loss dropped their record down to 1-14.

Everything came up roses for Capistrano Valley Christian against Avalon in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as the team secured an 89-29 victory. In that game, Capistrano Valley Christian amassed a halftime lead of 49-17, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
