Julianna Mena made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Natalia Young was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
While Edison didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Carteret 13-3 on Tuesday. Considering the Eagles have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jenna Fugate and Callie DiBisceglie made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Fugate tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, DiBisceglie pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. At bat, Fugate went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double, while DiBisceglie went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That double was DiBisceglie's first of the season.
In other batting news, K Harkins was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. She also put up two doubles, which were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Nalini Parekh, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Edison kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carteret only managed four hits.
Edison pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Piscataway, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Piscataway hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Edison struggles in that department as they've averaged .491. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Piscataway might still be hurting after the 12-1 defeat they got from Edison in their previous meeting on Thursday. Will the Chiefs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
