The Liberty Charter Lions were the 34-33 winner over the Coastal Academy Stingrays when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Liberty Charter was beaten by Coastal Academy 56-16 on Friday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Liberty Charter has scored all season.
Liberty Charter's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Duke Dengerink, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds. Dengerink has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last 14 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Henry Appelquist, who scored three points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Liberty Charter's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-14. As for Coastal Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
Liberty Charter's road trip will continue as they head out to face High Tech NC at 3:00 p.m. on February 6th. High Tech NC is coming into the matchup with five straight victories at home, so Liberty Charter is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. Coastal Academy will take on San Diego Jewish Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully San Diego Jewish Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday.
