If the Clear Creek Golddiggers were riding high off their 59-24 takedown of the Gilpin County Eagles last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Clear Creek took a 53-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Vail Christian on Tuesday. Clear Creek has not had much luck with Vail Christian recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Collin Hendrickson and Alex Shriner certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Hendrickson dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds, while Shriner scored 12 points along with eight rebounds. That was a full 36.6% of Clear Creek's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Tyler O'Brien was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with four steals.
Vail Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Asher Leonard, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Will Neumann, who scored ten points.
Clear Creek's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Vail Christian, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clear Creek will face off against Dawson School at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Dawson School is ranked 210th, while Clear Creek is ranked 220th). As for Vail Christian, they will head out on the road to square off against Plateau Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Plateau Valley's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine matches.
