Seward is a perfect 4-0 against St. Paul/Palmer since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. Seward will host St. Paul/Palmer.
Seward easily dispatched Raymond Central on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Seward fell just short of Wahoo/Bishop Neumann by a score of 8-6 on Thursday. The Bluejays have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Connor Sveeggen put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Sveeggen was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Brycen Burt made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Keyan Schadwinkel also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Even though they lost, Seward hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, St. Paul/Palmer hadn't done well against Adams Central recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. St. Paul/Palmer came out on top in a nail-biter against Adams Central, sneaking past 6-5.
Braxton Heater was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
St. Paul/Palmer pushed their record up to 3-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Seward, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Seward has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. Paul/Palmer struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Seward's way against St. Paul/Palmer in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Seward made off with a 14-3 victory. Will Seward repeat their success, or does St. Paul/Palmer has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
