Baseball Game Preview: Weslaco East Wildcats vs. Rivera Raiders

For the second straight game, Weslaco East will face off against Rivera. The Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Weslaco East will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

Weslaco East barely beat Rivera the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 11-4 win on Tuesday. Considering the Wildcats have won 13 matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

James Abrego was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Jayden Del Villar was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eduardo Hernandez, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Weslaco East always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rivera only posted an OBP of .394.

Weslaco East's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Rivera, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Weslaco East has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Rivera struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
