The Loris Lions will challenge the Ironton Fighting Tigers at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Loris is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Loris easily dispatched Georgetown last Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Lions fell just short of Pee Dee Academy by a score of 3-1 on Monday. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Lions couldn't push the score so high this time.
Loris saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Cannon, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Ironton made easy work of South Point on Friday and carried off a 15-5 win. Considering the Fighting Tigers have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ava Bihl spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Ferguson, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, eight RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Aubry Shavers, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Ironton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Ironton's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Loris, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Loris hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Ironton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
