Deep Creek has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against The Lakeland Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Friday, Deep Creek took a serious blow against King's Fork, falling 48-7. While losing is never fun, Deep Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 117th, while King's Fork is ranked 11th).
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Lakeland, who are still winless after their ninth contest. They were beaten by Nansemond River 66-6 on Friday.
Deep Creek now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Lakeland, their defeat was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9.
Everything came up roses for Deep Creek against Lakeland in their previous meeting back in September of 2022 as the team secured a 56-16 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Deep Creek since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
