Fallbrook fell just short of Mt. Carmel by a score of 53-51. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Fallbrook in their matchups with Mt. Carmel: they've now lost seven in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Fallbrook lost on Wednesday, one person who can't be blamed is Christian Myers. Despite the final result, he scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Malaki Brotherton, who scored ten points.
Mt. Carmel's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Raymond Hourani led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Hourani has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Makai Orje, who scored 14 points.
Fallbrook has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. As for Mt. Carmel, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fallbrook will take on San Pasqual at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. San Pasqual is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Mt. Carmel, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Escondido at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. Escondido will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 942nd, while Mt. Carmel is ranked 357th).
