The Zephyrhills Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Vanguard Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Zephyrhills had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 27-17 victory over Cypress Creek on Friday. The win was just what Zephyrhills needed coming off of a 40-6 defeat in their prior contest.
DJ Pickett and Brendyn Colella were among the main playmakers for Zephyrhills as the former picked up 108 receiving yards and two touchdowns and the latter threw for 169 yards and two touchdowns on only nine passes. Pickett's longest reception was for an incredible 76 yards.
Meanwhile, Vanguard had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 52.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They claimed a resounding 36-0 win over River Ridge at home. Considering Vanguard has won five matchups by more than 35 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Zephyrhills' victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.2 points per game. As for Vanguard, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
