The McDonough Warhawks struggled with offensive rebounds on Saturday (the Stockbridge Tigers had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. 2024 welcomed McDonough with a 73-47 loss courtesy of Stockbridge. While losing is never fun, McDonough can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 330th, while Stockbridge is ranked 46th).
When it comes to explaining why McDonough lost, one person who can't be blamed is Janique Trinidad. Despite the final result, she scored 26 points. Those 26 points set a new season-high mark for her.
Leading Stockbridge to victory were Jayla Fulks and Carrington Wilson. Fulks scored 18 points, while Wilson scored 19 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Wilson is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last four games she's played. Jahliya McDonald was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds.
McDonough bumped their record down to 6-10 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Stockbridge, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-4.
McDonough will be playing at home against Mt. Zion at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Stockbridge, they will head out on the road to face off against Lovett at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lovett is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
