Southwest Yosemite recap September 17, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Josh Medina and Anthony Mariscal connected against Tehachapi. The connection went for 55 yards, the longest such play in Southwest Yosemite this season.
Bakersfield was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Garces. The Drillers came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.
Liberty's dynamic duo of Medina and Mariscal proved to be unstoppable against the Warriors, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Medina threw for 282 yards and 2 touchdowns and Mariscal had 128 yards receiving. Hanz Harker helped Liberty's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 88 yards.
The Patriots' dynamic duo of Medina and Mariscal proved tough for Tehachapi to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Medina put up the best numbers in passing as Liberty topped Steve Denman's team.
Andrew Hansen was a passing and rushing force as Centennial lost to Clovis. He completed 18 passes for 232 yards and also ran for 107 yards. Hansen's key target this week was Greg Gomez, who caught 10 passes for 97 yards.
Xavier Chisholm was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 192 yards as Stockdale bested the Warriors. Anthony Wood also contributed to the rushing game with 156 yards on the ground.
Mariscal was the best receiver in the league this week as the Patriots defeated Tehachapi.
Leading Southwest Yosemite in both passing and receiving yards, Liberty's Medina and Mariscal have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-10 quarterback Medina has thrown for 620 yards this season, while Mariscal has 12 catches for 187 yards. Asauni Rufus from Bakersfield leads the league in rushing with 406 yards.
The Mustangs scaled the state rankings by moving to 157 from 218 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Stockdale climbed the ranks as a result of topping Inglewood 55-12.
