Sacred Heart took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 65-42 margin over the Breckinridge County Fighting Tigers. The Valkyries are really starting to get used to good results now that the team has won 14 straight dating back to last season.
Leading Sacred Heart to victory were Bri Wilkins and Amirah 'Tootie' Jordan. Wilkins shot 43% from the field to rack up 22 points in addition to three steals and three blocks, while Jordan went 8-for-12 en route to 20 points along with six assists and four steals. Jordan has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 16 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Emma Zutterman, who posted five points and nine boards.
They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Sacred Heart was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Breckinridge County only racked up eight.
Breckinridge County's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josie Mitcham, who went 5-for-11 on her way to 10 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rowan Radaszewski, who had 13 points.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sacred Heart will take on South Laurel at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Breckinridge County, they will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Cloverport at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
