Alameda is 8-2 against Bishop O'Dowd since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Hornets will square off against the Dragons at 4:00 p.m. Alameda is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Alameda was able to grind out a solid victory over Encinal, taking the game 8-4. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Jets recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Julia Lambert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Mia Wong was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Soderlund, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.
Alameda hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Bishop O'Dowd won against Pinole Valley on Friday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Dragons walked away with a 10-5 victory over Arroyo. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Dragons.
The team relied heavily on Riley Veenstra, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Jaella Mercado, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Bishop O'Dowd's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Alameda, their record now sits at 6-3.
Bishop O'Dowd's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Alameda has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Bishop O'Dowd, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Alameda keep running through batters, or will the Dragons buck the trend?
Alameda came out on top in a nail-biter against Bishop O'Dowd in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
