John Jay got a great performance from Landon Seipp as he struck out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. Seipp has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Marc Cretara, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Ayden Vitale was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, North Rockland made easy work of Warwick on Saturday and carried off a 14-2 victory. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Eyen Rosario tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits.
On the hitting side, Tyler Prisco and Derek Leitner did most of the damage at the plate: Prisco got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Leitner went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Leitner a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Greg Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
North Rockland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
John Jay pushed their record up to 11-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for North Rockland, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. John Jay has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like North Rockland struggles in that department as they've averaged .476. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went John Jay's way against North Rockland when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as John Jay made off with an 11-1 win. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
