Basketball Recap: Northridge Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Bailey Mcgeen and Sophia Carbajal

It was a good run, but Northridge unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. The matchup between them and the Timnath Cubs didn't end well, with the Northridge Grizzlies falling 53-37. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Grizzlies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 56-53 back in December of 2024.

Northridge's loss came despite strong showings from Sophia Carbajal and Bailey McGeen. Carbajal dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 boards, while McGeen posted 14 points. Carbajal has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more rebounds the last 18 times she's played. Samantha Jackson was another key player, putting up two points.

Even though they lost, Northridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Timnath only pulled down five offensive boards.

Timnath's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tiana Guzman led the charge by going 7 of 11 on her way to 20 points and four steals. That's the most points Guzman has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Olivia Zadeh, who went 5 for 7 en route to 14 points and six boards.

Northridge's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Timnath, they pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northridge will take on Thompson Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Thompson Valley's defense has only allowed 29.6 points per game this season, so Northridge's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Timnath, they will challenge Greeley Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Timnath is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.3 points per game this season.
