On Friday, York beat Malcolm 46-33. The victory was all the more spectacular given York's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while Malcolm is ranked 34th).
York's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kiersten Portwine, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kynli Combs, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Despite the defeat, Malcolm saw an underclassman step up: Halle Dolliver dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 54.5% of Malcolm's points, marking the 14th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Kamryn Broders was another key contributor, scoring five points along with two steals.
York's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Malcolm, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4.
York will take on North Platte at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Clancy Brown and Portwine. Malcolm won't have much time to rest: their next game is against St. Paul at 11:50 a.m. on January 20th. St. Paul is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
