The Hoggard Vikings scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Topsail 75-41 at home. Given Hoggard's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while Topsail is ranked 404th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hoggard had a senior duo take command as Jaylen Herring scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and five steals and Malakahi West scored 14 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points West has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of TiYeon Wilson, who scored five points along with nine steals.
Despite the defeat, Topsail had strong showings from Jarrett Trawick, who scored seven points, and Spencer Henry, who scored five points.
Hoggard's victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Topsail, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hoggard will take on New Hanover at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. New Hanover is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Topsail, they will be playing in front of their home fans against South Brunswick at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. South Brunswick is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
