Baseball Recap: Burncoat Takes a Loss

Burncoat dropped their record down to 4-9 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 10-0 to the Doherty Memorial Highlanders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Highlanders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 back in April.

As for Doherty Memorial, the victory got them back to even at 7-7. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

For Doherty Memorial's part, Mikey O'Connell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave O'Connell a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Doherty Memorial's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Tommy Kursonis was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one home run. Aiden O'Connor was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coming up, Burncoat will take on Advanced Math & Science Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Doherty Memorial, they will face off against South at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
