Lehighton is 2-8 against Tamaqua since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lehighton Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Tamaqua Blue Raiders at 7:30 p.m. Lehighton will be strutting in after a win while Tamaqua will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Monday, Lehighton made easy work of Jim Thorpe and carried off a 58-36 win. Given Lehighton's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Jim Thorpe is ranked 536th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 74-47, which was the final score in Tamaqua's tilt against Pottsville on Monday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Tamaqua has scored all season.
Tamaqua's defeat came about despite a quality game from Cooper Ansbach, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Dillon, who scored 11 points.
Lehighton's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. As for Tamaqua, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Lehighton took a serious blow against Tamaqua when the teams last played back in January, falling 59-24. Can Lehighton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
