The Waukesha South Blackshirts are taking a road trip to challenge the Greendale Panthers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Waukesha South is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with ten losses in a row, Waukesha South turned things around against Living Word Lutheran on Friday. They put the hurt on the Timberwolves with a sharp 18-0 win. The Blackshirts not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 3, 2024 (when they won 24-6).
Deanna Sanchez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Sanchez was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and eight RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Waukesha South got a massive performance out of Chiara Browne, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Browne a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyson Staley, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Waukesha South kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Greendale was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 12-2 to New Berlin Eisenhower. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Panthers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Greendale saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Giselle Paszkiewicz, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Waukesha South's record is now 4-12. As for Greendale, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Waukesha South hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Greendale struggles in that department as they've averaged .358. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
